Cardiovascular Technologist Job Outlook

Employment of cardiovascular technologists and technicians, including vascular technologists, is projected to grow 10% from 2016 to 2026, faster than the forecasted 7% average growth for all occupations. By 2026, the number of jobs for cardiovascular technologists and technicians, including vascular technologists, is expected to increase 5,500 positions from 2016 levels. A variety of factors will contribute to the favorable Cardiovascular Technologist Job Outlook. As imaging technology evolves, medical facilities will use it to replace more invasive, costly procedures. Technological advances and less expensive equipment now allow more procedures to be done outside of hospitals. Moreover, third-party payers encourage the use of these noninvasive measures over invasive ones, providing further impetus to the Cardiovascular Technologist Job Outlook through 2026.

Diagnostic imaging personnel who are certified are expected to have the best job opportunities. Those certified in more than one specialty are expected to find even greater job opportunities.
